Synopsis

I Am Love is a tragic love story set at the turn of the millennium in Milan. The film depicts a world on the cusp of change, the magnificent old order struggling to hold its place against new challengers. Guadagnino gives an intimate insight into the cultivated world of a wealthy and distinguished Milanese industrial family.

Oscar nominee I Am Love is a supremely confident piece of filmmaking exquisitely shot and using every inch of the screen in stunningly beautifully paced and conceived compositions. Every shot is a painting. This is a film that reinforces or restores one's faith in the power of cinema to tell a story in mesmerising images. It presents international audiences with all that they love about Visconti's Italy: the family, the architecture, the design, the fashionable Fendi clothes, the food, the music, the art, the lushness of the countryside.

Reviews

"An amazing film. It is deep, rich, human. It is not about rich and poor, but about old and new. It is about the ancient war between tradition and feeling."
"In every sense, I Am Love is a stunning achievement."
Jay Weissberg, VARIETY
"I Am Love fuses the past with the changing future in a marvelous traditional narrative without a shred of the sloppy trends of contemporary filmmaking."
Rex Reed, NEW YORK OBSERVER
"By the end of this often soaringly beautiful melodrama, which closes with a funeral, Emma's face will have crumpled into a ruin. But it will also be fully alive, having been granted, like Pygmalion's statue, the breath of life"
Manohla Dargis, NEW YORK TIMES
